1000 Books Before Kindergarten

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a free program that supports reading literacy and early brain development for children.

Did you know?
Children who are read to at an early age are more successful in school.

Reading aloud to infants and children encourages social, emotional, and cognitive development.

The ability to learn language skills is greatest before the age of six.

Children who are read to have bigger vocabularies when they enter school.

If you read just one book a day with your child, you'll reach 1,000 books in less than three years!

How the Program works:

1. Register for the program through the link on our website, (www.cannonafblibrary.org), or click here. Once registered in Beanstack you can:

2. Record books read in your online account.

3. Bring your child to the library after reading 100 books to receive a milestone certificate.

4. Certificates are awarded at 100 book increments.

5. Keep reading until you reach 1000 books.

6. For extra engagement, use the printable progress log to provide a visual aid for your child. Ask a library staff member for a copy of a progress log.

How will we ever read 1,000 Books?

Read the same book over, and over, and over.
Read in any language.
Story Times count, too!
Read books from anywhere – home, daycare, libraries.
Count the book for each child if you are reading to more than one at a time.

3 books a day for 1 year = 1,095 books

Sharing just one book a night gives your child the building blocks for lifelong success!
